Keoladeo Ghana National Park
Keoladeo Ghana National Park, popularly known as Bharatpur is arguably India's best bird sanctuary. Located in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan at a distance of 175 km. from Delhi, it was given the status of National Park in the year 1981. The sanctuary also figures in the UNESCO World Heritage sites list.
The park coveres an area of 19 Sq. Km. and is home to over 350 species of migratory and resident birds. On any given day, visitors can see many rare and threatened species like the Sociable Lapwing, Indian Courser, Imperial, White-tailed, Greater and Indian Spotted Eagles, Darters, Black-necked, Painted and Asian Openbill Storks, Common, Sarus and Demoiselle Cranes, Dalmatian Pelicans, Black Bittern, Greater Painted Snipe, Large-tailed, Indian and Grey Nightjars, Dusky Eagle Owls, Marshall's Iora, Siberian Rubythroat and Brook's Leaf Warblers. A paradise for Bird lovers, it is open all through the year, though winters (Nov-Mar) are considered the best time to visit when the Palearctic migrants visit the park.
Mammals like Jungle Cat, Golden Jackal, Hyena, Fishing cats and Wild Boars are also spotted here. The town also has a number of resorts and hotels for tourists.
By Air :- The Delhi airport is about 5-6 hours from the Bharatpur bird sanctuary.
By Train :- The Bharatpur railway station is 6 Km. from the bird sanctuary and the town is well connected with almost all major cities including Mumbai, Agra, Jaipur and Delhi.
By Road :- Bharatpur is well connected by road to all major neighboring cities including Agra (55-kms), Delhi (176-kms) and Jaipur (176-kms).
